Bucks, relatives say Antetokounmpo’s social media was hacked

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo’s social media accounts were hacked on Thursday afternoon and several bizarre and offensive tweets were posted, according to the Milwaukee Bucks, Antetokounmpo’s brother and the player’s representatives.

Over a dozen tweets surfaced on Antetokounmpo’s feed within approximately five minutes. The tweets, which seemed evidently to be from someone other than the current MVP, included racial slurs, vulgar attacks on other players, and a false assertion that Antetokounmpo had contracted the coronavirus.

“Giannis’ social media, phone, email, and bank accounts have been compromised!” tweeted Kostas Antetokounmpo, a forward for the Los Angeles Lakers. “He sincerely regrets the content posted during the hack and will return as soon as he can. The hacker’s comments were absolutely inappropriate and repugnant!”

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s account didn’t display the tweets for long before they disappeared.

On Thursday night, Giannis Antetokounmpo confirmed via a tweet that his account had been hacked. He expressed his regret for the players who were mentioned in the false and malicious tweets.

Antetokounmpo expressed his disappointment and disgust on Twitter, stating, “The tweets and posts were extremely inappropriate. I am appalled that someone would utter such terrible things!”

The Bucks confirmed in a statement that an investigation has been initiated. Antetokounmpo’s agency, Octagon, also substantiated the hacking.
