Bucks, relatives say Antetokounmpo’s social media was hacked

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo’s social media accounts were hacked on Thursday afternoon and several bizarre and offensive tweets were posted, according to the Milwaukee Bucks, Antetokounmpo’s brother and the player’s representatives.

Over a dozen tweets surfaced on Antetokounmpo’s feed within approximately five minutes, evidently crafted by someone other than the current MVP. These tweets contained racial slurs, obscene assaults on other players, and a false assertion that Antetokounmpo was infected with the coronavirus.

“Giannis’ twitter, phone, email, and bank accounts were compromised!” tweeted Kostas Antetokounmpo, a forward for the Los Angeles Lakers. “He sincerely regrets everything that was tweeted and will return as soon as he can! The comments made by this hacker were utterly inappropriate and revolting!”

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s account quickly removed the tweets after they were posted.

On Thursday night, Giannis Antetokounmpo tweeted to confirm that his account had been hacked. He expressed feeling “terrible” for the players who were mentioned in the harmful and false tweets.

“Extremely inappropriate tweets and posts have left me feeling both disappointed and disgusted. I can’t believe someone would utter such terrible things!” Antetokounmpo expressed via Twitter.

In a statement, the Bucks confirmed that an investigation is currently in progress. Antetokounmpo’s agency, Octagon, also verified the hacking incident.
