Lakers’ James takes overall lead in second fan returns of NBA All-Star Voting presented by Google

NEW YORK — The Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James has surpassed the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Dončić and the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo to lead the NBA in the second fan returns of NBA All-Star Voting presented by Google.

James has taken an 82,001-vote lead over Dončić among all Western Conference players. The NBA All-Star Game captains will be the All-Star starter from each conference who receives the most fan votes in his conference.

50% of the vote determining the 10 starters for the 69th NBA All-Star Game comes from fans. The game is scheduled to be held at the United Center in Chicago, on Sunday, February 16, at 8 p.m. ET, and will be aired on TNT. The remaining 50% of the vote is equally shared between current NBA players and a media panel, each having 25%. All voters will fill out a full ballot, which includes two guards and three frontcourt players from each conference. Voting will end on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 20 at 11:59 p.m. ET, for fans, players, and media.

Once all votes have been counted, players will be ranked by position (guard and frontcourt) in their respective conferences based on three voting groups: fan votes, player votes, and media votes. A player’s score will be determined by averaging his weighted rank from each voting group. The top two guards and three frontcourt players with the highest scores in each conference will be selected as NBA All-Star Game starters. If players within the same position group have identical scores, fan voting will be used to break the tie.

The NBA All-Star Voting, sponsored by Google, started on December 25 and continues until Monday, January 20. The last update for fan voting will be disclosed on Thursday, January 16.

During the voting period, there are five “2-for-1 Days” where fans’ votes are counted double. The rest of the 2-for-1 Days, scheduled from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. ET, will be held tomorrow (Jan. 10), Jan.16, and Jan.20 through all voting platforms. The previous 2-for-1 Days took place on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.
