FIBA World Cup Team Profile: Mexico

Mexico has a veteran squad that will look to use experience to lead them past their fierce Group D competition. Mexico has not played in the FIBA World Cup since 2014, so they will be highly motivated to make noise in this year’s tournament. Six of Mexico’s veteran players participated in 2014, and will provide leadership for a group hungry to advance.

What to Watch

Keep an eye on Francisco “Pako” Cruz. In Mexico’s last appearance in the FIBA World Cup, Cruz was the second leading scorer for the national team with 12.2 PPG in six games. Cruz is 33 years old but can still score with the best of them. This season in the Turkish BSL league, he averaged 16.9 PPG, 11th best in the league. Look for Pako to bring his veteran leadership and scoring in this year’s World Cup.
