Ricky Council IV’s well-rounded performance and multiple impressive complementary efforts lifted the Philadelphia 76ers to a 94-81 victory over the Detroit Pistons in an NBA 2K25 Summer League battle at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The opening quarter belied the high-scoring game the contest would eventually prove to be, as the 76ers scuffled their way to an 18-16 lead. Philadelphia had added another two points to its advantage by halftime, and after the Pistons were able to get within one entering the final period, the Sixers dominated the final 10 minutes to the tune of a 30-18 edge and secured a double-digit win. Detroit was held to 39.7% shooting, including 22.2% from behind the arc.
No. 5 overall pick Ron Holland led the Pistons with 15 points, adding seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal. Rookie second-round selection Bobi Klintman furnished 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal. Tolu Smith generated a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double that included one assist. Aaron Estrada matched Smith’s scoring, while Jayce Johnson contributed 11 points, six rebounds and one assist.
Council paced the 76ers with 24 points, supplementing them with six rebounds and two steals. Keve Aluma delivered 19 points, eight boards, one steal and one block. Jeff Dowtin totaled 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Rookie first-round pick Jared McCain posted 11 points, six rebounds, one assist and two steals.
The Pistons are back in action Monday evening against the Houston Rockets, while the 76ers will battle the Portland Trail Blazers later that night.
