Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett is doing his best Monty Python impression.
Garrett is listed with foot, Achilles and thigh issues ahead of Sunday’s showdown against the Las Vegas Raiders. However, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year brushed off the injuries as nothing but a scratch.
“I try to spend every moment preparing my body for the rigors of the season and sometimes some bumps and bruises like I have now,” he said Thursday, via The Associated Press. “An injured animal is the fiercest, so I’m going to be at my best.”
Garrett underwent an MRI on Monday on the injured foot, which came back clean. The 28-year-old has not missed a game due to injury since Week 4, 2022 (shoulder/biceps) — the Browns lost 23-20 to Atlanta while recording one sack.
The edge rusher hasn’t looked like his dominant self to open the season, but he does have two strip-sacks in three games. While dealing with the injuries, Garrett played just 58 percent of snaps in Week 3’s loss to the New York Giants, significantly lower than his normal rate. He had to leave the field for attention multiple times.
Garrett admitted the injuries didn’t let him perform at his peak.
“I felt like I was limited,” he said. “But again, I won’t make any excuses for it. That’s just what it is right now. Everyone’s dealing with their own issues, whether physically or mentally. Mine happen to be very apparent. So we’re going to get them as right as they can and then I’ll be out there and playing at the best that I can.”
Garrett took Wednesday’s practice off to rest. He was listed as limited on Thursday.
Despite the injuries that have Garrett clearly hindered, it doesn’t sound like he has any plans on sitting out this weekend.
“Maybe,” he said when asked if extra rest would help. “But that’s what we have a bye week for. So until then, you’re not going to get enough of 95.”
