Benched on Sunday, defensive back Marcus Peters is leaving Las Vegas on Monday.
Peters, who watched the majority of the Las Vegas Raiders’ loss to the Kansas City Chiefs from the sidelines, is being released by the team, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per a source. Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce announced the news of Peters’ release on Monday, and that of safety Roderic Teamer, who was arrested on DUI charges Saturday night.
Pierce had a brief sideline exchange with Peters, 30, who was benched midway through the second quarter after missing a tackle badly.
Pierce stated after the game that Peters, who only played 20 snaps, did not return due to a “coach’s decision”, but he did not provide further details.
The decision to sever ties with Peters on Monday, however, speaks volumes.
The player, who has been named to the Pro Bowl three times and All-Pro twice, has had difficulties this season, especially with run defense. Peters is considering joining a fifth professional team, having already played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore Ravens.
Peters, in his 12 starts for the Raiders this season, has achieved 43 tackles, five pass breakups and one interception. He returned this interception for a 75-yard touchdown against the Detroit Lions.
