The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 99-96 in overtime on Sunday.
It took eight ties and 22 lead changes — as well as an overtime period — to finally determine a winner. Minnesota was able to prevail, outscoring Philadelphia 8 to 5 in the two-minute overtime. Neither team grabbed a double-digit lead at any point in the contest.
Minnesota shot 38.1% from three-point range and 87.5% (21-24 FT) from the free-throw line while Philadelphia shot just 20% from distance and 66.7% (10-15 FT) at the stripe.
Jaylen Nowell led the Timberwolves with 26 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Second-year forward Jaden McDaniels tallied 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Nathan Knight compiled 19 points, four rebounds and four assists while Brian Bowen II had 14 points and five boards.
Paul Reed had one of the biggest games of any player in Las Vegas, leading Philadelphia with 27 points, 20 rebounds, four assists, four steals and four blocks in 34 minutes. Rayjon Tucker led the bench with 16 points. Former Kansas standout Frank Mason racked up 15 points, four rebounds and four assists.
The win preserved Minnesota’s perfect record in Summer League, but due to their overall point differential, the Wolves fell short of reaching the championship game.
