The English Premier League began this weekend but there are still two teams who need to play their first match. This afternoon as a standalone match, Leicester City host Tottenham to begin both of their 2024-25 EPL campaigns. While Leicester were able to beat Tottenham in their last meeting in February of 2023, the Spurs had won 4 straight before then, with each team finding the back of the net in every game.
Will we see some more fireworks tonight? Leicester City is back in the Premier League after winning the League Championship last year, and face a Tottenham team that placed 5th by just 2 points. The Spurs will clearly be motivated to get back into a UEFA Champions League position, as well as compete for the EPL Title. As for Leicester, they are just happy to be back in England’s top league while they look to avoid relegation this season. They have the benefit of hosting Tottenham today, but will that matter at all?

How Many Will Tottenham Score?

In my mind, it’s not a question of if Tottenham will score, rather, how many will find the back of the net. This offense is incredible up top, and Leicester, again, is simply just happy to be here. I see Leicester playing incredibly conservative in order to try and handle the offensive pressure from the Spurs. Tottenham is way more talented than Leicester, and have a much higher ceiling this year. I see them starting off hot on the right foot, and building momentum for the rest of the season.
The Spurs have Richarlison, Son Heung-Min, and Timo Werner up top, exemplifying their star power on the attack. While their defense might be a bit iffy at times, Leicester won’t have much counter attack at all, and it would not surprise me if Tottenham holds the ball for over 70% possession in this match. Ultimately, I see them scoring multiple goals, but their team total is a bit too juiced to me. While BetOnline is hanging -142 for their ML which is the best number on the market, I will be putting my coins elsewhere.

For plus money and push potential, I’ll certainly take the Spurs to win this game by 2. Now if you would like to take the -1.5 at (+169), be my guest, but I’m okay with a push in this scenario. With a total at 3, Tottenham’s TT at 1.5 juiced to the over at (-168), Vegas clearly thinks they score some goals today. Even Both Teams to Score is juiced to (-165) which leads me to believe maybe Leicester could press for a goal.
Personally, I don’t think so, and I think this match has 2-0 (+750) or 3-0 Tottenham (+1200) written all over it. If Tottenham only wins by 1 and we push, I’ll tip my cap to Leicester, but I see this wager being relatively sweat free… potentially my famous last words.
