Luka Doncic out through Monday, possibly longer after ankle 'flare up'

Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic has been sidelined for Sunday’s game vs. Thunder due to left ankle soreness.

OKLAHOMA CITY  — Dallas star Luka Doncic was ruled out before the Mavericks’ 103-84 win Sunday at Oklahoma City because of left ankle soreness.

Dallas coach Jason Kidd told media members before the game that the superstar playmaker had experienced a “flare up” with the sprain initially suffered on Nov. 15 against Denver. Kidd added that Doncic would also miss Monday’s game at Charlotte and that his status for Wednesday’s game against the Lakers was not yet determined.

Doncic reinjured the ankle in the second half at Indiana on Friday and said he probably shouldn’t have kept playing in the 106-93 loss.

Mavs coach Jason Kidd says Luka Dončić has been formally ruled out of both ends of Dallas’ back-to-back tonight in Oklahoma City and Monday against Charlotte due to a “flare up” of the ankle injury and adds that his availability for Wednesday’s home date with the Lakers is TBD. https://t.co/63a6mAekl7

Dallas is 0-4 without Doncic this season.

Although Doncic has played most of the games since the injury, the Mavericks are 3-9 in that stretch and have shot less than 50% in every game expect one in which they set a franchise record at 68.7% shooting.

A loss to the Thunder would drop Dallas two games below .500 for the first time this season under first-year coach Jason Kidd.
