Last Monday through Thursday these two squads played each other down in Atlanta at Truist Park. The Washington Nationals were somehow able to steal 3/4 games from the home town Braves, and they currently lead the regular season series 3-1. The Braves were outscored 18-9 in the process, and they lost by an average of over 3 runs.
Now, these teams had a short hiatus, but are back once again facing each other, this time in DC. These NL East teams are both chasing the Phillies, but the Nationals are also chasing the Braves, who are 8 games ahead of them in the division. After dropping 3/4 to the Nationals, the Braves hosted the A’s and played a short series in Boston, going 3-2 in those games.
However, yesterday their bats were dead, and they lost 9-0 in Boston. Since winning the series in Atlanta, the Nationals lost 2/3 in Cleveland, and were swept by the Mets at home. Washington was outscored 23-11 in just 3 games, and today they will look to turn things back around.
Will they be able to against their division rival? Or will the Braves seek revenge and try to catch the NL East leader?

Like I said, the Nationals took 3/4 from the Braves at home. They are only 10-16 at Nationals Park this season, and the Braves do have a winning record at home. Since that series in Atlanta, the Braves have been trending up, slowly but surely, while the Nationals have pretty much fallen off a cliff. Plus, the matchup is very favorable for Atlanta.
Mitchell Parker starts for the Nationals. He’s a lefty who has faced this team before and even picked up the win. Parker pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 0 walks. He struck out 6 batters and gave up a home run, but the Nationals won the game 8-4. Atlanta hist .247 as a team, ranking 10th in the MLB, but that number jumps to .257 against LHP.
Although they didn’t have a great day against him last time out, I think things could change this time. Parker has allowed 3+ earned runs in 5 of his L6 starts, allowing 5 home runs in the process as well. The Nationals’ average doesn’t move much based on the splits, but they’ve only score 3.16 runs in their L6 games. I don’t think that will be enough to get past the Braves tonight.

This is the perfect time to fade this team. The Braves have already seen Parker and took him for 3 runs, and they should certainly be able to do it again.
I trust Reynaldo Lopez to shove like he’s been doing recently, and I think the Braves prove they are much closer to the Phillies than they are to the Nationals, Mets, and Marlins. Give me the Braves by 2 for nearly even money.
