MIAMI (AP) — Shaquille O’Neal’s No. 32 jersey will be retired by the Miami Heat on Dec. 22, during a ceremony at halftime of the team’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Heat announced plans to retire the number earlier this year, and finalized the date on Monday. The Lakers retired No. 34, the number O’Neal wore for them, in April 2013.
O’Neal will be the third former Heat player to receive the honor from the team, joining Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway. The Heat also retired No. 23 as a tribute to Michael Jordan.
O’Neal won four NBA titles as a player, three with the Lakers and then in 2006 with Miami. The Heat acquired him in a trade with the Lakers on July 14, 2004.
