After ten consecutive wins, only one match stands between India and a perfect run through the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
The final obstacle in their way to a third Cricket World Cup title happens to be the only team that currently owns more than two Cricket World Cup wins, five-time champions Australia, who have rallied and grinded their way to an eighth final after a poor start to the tournament.
These two teams started the tournament against one another, with India claiming a six-wicket win in Chennai.
Since that match on October 8, India have won and won and won, mostly in dominant fashion. Their semifinal win over New Zealand was another such display.
Led by centuries by Virat Kohli (117 off of 113 balls, his record-breaking 50th ODI ton) and Shreyas Iyer (105 off of 70 balls), India put up 397 for 4 with the bat, then bowled out New Zealand for 327 to secure a 70-run win with seven balls to spare.

Australia had a little more drama to contend with in their semifinal, but they saw off South Africa by three wickets in a low-scoring contest.
Australia bowled out the Proteas for 212, then started fast with the bat, scoring 60 runs in six overs.
However, South Africa pulled themselves back into the game, and everything was up for grabs when Josh Inglis fell in the 40th over, putting Australia seven wickets down with 20 runs still left to get. But Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc stuck together and patiently finished the job, reaching the target with 16 balls to spare.
After avenging an early defeat to South Africa, the chance is now there for Australia to take things full circle and avenge their tournament-opening defeat. But just as was the case for that first matchup, India will enter the final as firm favorites.

Will India Successfully Handle the Pressure?
So far, India have managed to deal with massive pressure of being tournament hosts and favorites.
But will they be able to do so in the most pressure-packed situation of all? They did so in 2011, Australia did in 2015, and England did in 2019, so there is a pattern to uphold, in addition to enormous expectations.
2023 Cricket World Cup Results for India
- Australia: won by six wickets
- Afghanistan: won by eight wickets
- Pakistan: won by seven wickets
- Bangladesh: won by seven wickets
- New Zealand: won by four wickets
- England: won by 100 runs
- Sri Lanka: won by 302 runs
- South Africa: won by 243 runs
- Netherlands: won by 160 runs
- New Zealand (Semifinal): won by 70 runs
If India can’t close the deal after such a dominant run through the tournament, it will be a major disappointment, even if they fall in a close contest.
Thus far, the only game that was remotely close was their four-wicket win over New Zealand in the group stage, in which they were five wickets down with 83 runs still left to knock out but were carried home by Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.
But Australia

Australia have taken the scenic route, but they are deservedly in yet another final. No matter the personnel, the Aussies and Cricket World Cup finals go hand-in-hand like mashed potatoes and gravy in both men’s and women’s cricket.
India vs Australia Prediction and Picks
India vs Australia Prediction: India to win
The team of destiny doesn’t always win, but India have been too good in the tournament, and I don’t see them stumbling at the last hurdle.
India vs Australia Picks
Virat Kohli Over 42.5 Runs (-115 at Bovada)
Kohli has led by example in the Cricket World Cup, and with 711 runs in ten matches (at an average of 101.57), is set to finish as the tournament’s top run scorer unless he gets out cheaply and Rohit Sharma posts a huge score.
He has failed to reach 50 runs in only two matches (16 versus Pakistan and a duck against England), and he has scores of 117, 103 not out, 101 not out, 95, 88, and 85 (versus Australia).
In his career, Kohli has an average of 53.79 against Australia, with eight centuries and 13 fifties in 46 innings.
He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for ODI centuries in the semifinals, but that won’t matter much unless India come away with the trophy. Look for him to do his part to make that happen.
Shreyas Iyer Over 30.5 Runs (-115 at Bovada)
Iyer had only one 50+ score in his first six matches in the tournament, but he has since caught fire. In his last four matches, he has scores of 82 (versus Sri Lanka), 77 (versus South Africa), 128 not out (versus the Netherlands), and 105 (versus New Zealand).
