Monday, Jan. 15 marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States, honoring the life and death of Dr. King, who was one of the prominent figures in the fight for civil rights in America. The NBA has 11 games lined up for MLK Day 2024, including a clash between the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks at 3:30 p.m. Both clubs have lost seven of their last 10 games, respectively, leaving them hungry to bounce back tonight.
While I do expect the Spurs to take advantage of the Hawks’ recently poor defensive play, my betting pick here comes in the form of Victor Wembanyama recording 10+ rebounds over on Bovada.
To the surprise of no one, the 7-foot-4 rookie big man isn’t struggling to collect boards this season. Wembanyama heads into tonight’s contest averaging 10.2 rebounds per game and has finished with a double-digit rebounding total of 54.5% of appearances thus far, registering at least 10 on 18 different occasions.
Additionally, the 20-year-old Frenchman has also racked up 10-plus rebounds in three consecutive games ahead of tonight’s performance to go on top of the fact that he recorded 12 against the Hawks in a 137-135 loss back on Nov. 30.
With Atlanta allowing the second-most rebounds in the NBA over the last five games, Wembanyama is in a great spot to come through on this prop. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t take advantage of the Hawks’ poor play on the glass.

After an abysmal 1-5 SU stretch to close out the regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles open the 2023-24 NFL postseason with a Wild Card tilt against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road tonight. The two sides previously met back in Week 3 as the Eagles exited Raymond James Stadium with a decisive 25-11 victory.
In a game where I like the Eagles to win on the road, considering taking a DeVonta Smith anytime touchdown as the best MLK Day prop bet here.
Smith finished the 2023 regular season by matching his career-high of seven touchdown catches. Interestingly enough, he scored five of those TDs in his last nine games, which includes a 79.0% catch success rate during that stretch.

The former Alabama wideout is likely licking his chops at a matchup against the Buccaneers, who allowed the eighth-most receptions and fourth-most yards to wide receivers in the regular season. They also gave up 14 TDs to the position, which is tied for 19th-most in the NFL. It isn’t the worst mark but it does show that the Bucs can be beat through the air.
With A.J. Brown also being sidelined from tonight’s affair, Smith’s status as the Eagles No. 1 WR opens the door for another productive night.

The Colorado Avalanche are one of the NHL’s hottest teams and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down, going 9-1-1 in their last 11 games. Their streak of success is on the line when they face the Montreal Canadiens, who’ve lost three straight games and seven of their last nine ahead of tonight’s contest.
But rather than going for a prop bet here, I like the idea of the Avalanche covering the 1.5-goal puck line.
The Avalanche know how to be their foes by a decently sized margin, highlighted by 20 of their 28 victories coming by multi-goal margins. This dominance has a lot to do with Colorado averaging the second-most goals while boasting the eighth-best power play in the NHL. For reference, the Canadiens allow the eighth-most goals while ranking in the bottom half of the league when it comes to power play (22nd) and penalty kill (28th).
Additionally, Colorado is 8-2 SU with a plus-12 goal differential in its last 10 meetings with Montreal, which includes an 8-4 victory the last time these teams met on March 13, 2023. With the Canadiens being outscored 26-16 in their last seven home games, the Avs shouldn’t struggle to win this by a solid margin.
