A spirited scoring effort from rookie second-round pick JD Davison helped lead the Boston Celtics to a dominant 108-91 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA 2K23 Summer League on Thursday afternoon at Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The Celtics came out of the gates playing well on both ends of the floor, leading to a 24-16 lead through one. Boston then added four points apiece to its edge over the Grizzlies over the subsequent two quarters, making the final period a mere formality. The Celtics upped their point totals in each quarter and finished with 50.0% shooting, including 36.1% from behind the arc.  

Ziaire Williams led the Grizzlies with 21 points, adding seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. Rookie first-round pick David Roddy provided 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kenneth Lofton Jr. matched Roddy’s scoring off the bench while adding two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Xavier Tillman supplied 12 points, two boards, one assist and one steal. Kennedy Chandler supplied an 11-point, 10-assist double-double that included four rebounds, one steal and one block. 

The Celtics’ Davison shot 9-for-14, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, on his way to a game-high 28 points. He added 10 assists, five rebounds, three steals and one block. Juhann Begarin managed 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Justin Jackson totaled 16 points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal. Brodric Thomas furnished 13 points, five boards, three assists and one steal. Trevion Williams generated an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double that included three assists and one steal.  

The two teams now await the finalizing of their playoff matchups Saturday.
