Miami-Florida quarterback Cam Ward enters Week 4 as BetOnline’s +450 favorite to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy. His odds have skyrocketed considering that he sat at +1400 to win the award at the end of August.
Having said that, Ward’s tremendous season is a big reason why the No. 8 Hurricanes are off to a 3-0 start. The senior gunslinger currently paces the nation with 11 touchdown passes while also leading the ACC with 1,035 passing yards, 11.6 yards per attempt, and a 209.3 player efficiency rating. He’s also displayed some mobility when forced, proven by his 46 rushing yards and one touchdown on just seven carries.
Coming in with the second-best odds is none other than Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. His odds have also increased from where they were last month (+1200) after completing 83.0% of his passes for an NCAAF-leading 1,172 yards with eight TDs and one interception. He’s already scored three rushing TDs as well, putting him just five away from his career high.
Rounding out the top three is Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, whose odds have increased from +900 to +750. The fourth-year QB might be averaging fewer passing yards per game (196.7) than he did in 2023 (218.0), however, he’s also thrown eight TDs without an INT and has already amassed 156 rushing yards and six scores on 36 carries. Without him, the Crimson Tide likely wouldn’t be No. 4 in the country.

2024 Heisman Trophy Prediction & Best Bet Before Week 4
Even though Cam Ward is (rightfully) the odds-on Heisman Trophy favorite, I’m taking Alabama’s Jalen Milroe as the best bet at the moment.
Being the starting quarterback for Alabama isn’t an easy task, but Milroe has handled it as well as anyone else could. He’s playing mistake-free football through the air while providing a reliable ground presence that has resulted in him reaching half of last year’s rushing TD total (12) in 10 fewer games. That’s without mentioning how his efficiency rating has improved for the second consecutive year (125.4 in 2022 to 172.2 in 2023 to 213.4 in 2024).
The Crimson Tide’s next game is a massive one against the rival No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs. Milroe led Alabama to a 27-24 victory over Georgia in the 2023 SEC Championship Game and if he can replicate that success, his Heisman odds will only improve tenfold.
As long as Milroe and Alabama don’t falter down the stretch, the 21-year-old dual-threat should remain a fixture in the 2024 Heisman Trophy race.
