After opening the series with a shocking 14-2 loss to the Pirates, the last two games have belonged to the Mets.

New York has completely shut down Pittsburgh’s offense, holding the latter to four runs on 12 hits in the last two games. Both losses also saw the Pirates plagued by slow starts as they only scored two runs in the first seven innings of each outing. That’s going to make it tough to battle back against the Mets, who averaged the most road runs in the Majors.

The one-sided nature of things isn’t new, though, as the Mets have now won six of their last seven matchups against the Pirates. Additionally, Pittsburgh has come up short against five of its last seven NL East opponents this season.

The Pirates have also been struggling at home, losing five of their last seven contests at PNC Park. On the flip side, the Mets are 12-5 SU across their last 17 road games and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.

The Mets have been one of the MLB’s better road teams throughout the last several weeks.

As the Pirates look to avoid a third straight loss, they’ll be facing Pirates RHP Christian Scott this afternoon. The 25-year-old rookie is still searching for his first MLB victory after going 0-2 with a 4.32 ERA through his first six starts.

Meanwhile, the Mets will be taking on Mitch Keller. Although the Pirates RHP has pitched to a career-best 3.48 ERA thus far this season, he’s coming off back-to-back shaky starts that saw him surrender eight earned runs and two homers on 15 hits across 10 2/3 innings.

On the flip side, it’s worth noting that Keller is 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA in three career meetings with the Mets, which includes one earned run surrender in 13 innings played at PNC Park.

After the last two games, I see the Mets winning this afternoon. The Pirates’ offense has been underwhelming in this series and even if Scott hasn’t been at the top of his game, it’s hard to imagine the former having a productive night. Look for New York to get out to an early lead before holding on for the distance.

Even though I’m predicting the Mets to win, I won’t be surprised if Christian Scott finishes with u4.5 total strikeouts (+125).

While Scott has a bright future, he hasn’t exactly been racking up large strikeout totals. The ex-Florida product is averaging only 3.3 strikeouts in his last four starts, finishing with the Under on this prop each time. The Pirates don’t exactly have the most talented bats in the MLB, however, they’re only averaging 7.7 Ks in this series and could take advantage of Scott’s inconsistencies.

Unless he has a strong start, don’t be shocked if Scott has another rough outing.
