RELEASE: Oilers sign Draisaitl to eight-year extension

The new contract of the superstar centreman, with an average annual value of $14 million, will commence in the 2025-26 season.

EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Leon Draisaitl to an eight-year contract extension starting in 2025-26 with an average annual value (AAV) of $14 million.

The superstar centreman, aged 28, participated in 81 games in the 2023-24 regular season, achieving 41 goals and 65 assists, totalling 106 points. Celebrating his 10th year with the Oilers, he further contributed 10 goals and 21 assists in 25 playoff games, propelling the team to its first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2006.

Draisaitl, one of the most accomplished and dynamic players in the history of Edmonton’s franchise, was selected by the Oilers in the first round (third overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.

The native of Cologne, Germany has accumulated impressive statistics over his 719 regular season games, placing him 9th in franchise history. He’s managed to score 347 goals (ranking 5th) and make 503 assists (also ranking 5th), adding up to 850 points (ranking 6th). Furthermore, Draisaitl has notched up 146 power-play goals (making him the top scorer in this category), earned 296 power-play points (3rd place), scored 61 game-winning goals (4th place), had 57 multi-goal games (5th place), and achieved 239 multi-point games (6th place).
