Dolphins RB De'Von Achane to miss multiple weeks with knee injury

De'Von Achane‘s sensational rookie campaign will be put on pause.

NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday that the Miami Dolphins’ running back is expected to be out for several weeks due to a knee injury, according to sources aware of the situation.

The Dolphins have four games before a Week 10 bye — versus Carolina, at Philly, versus New England, at Kansas City. Achane could be a candidate for injured reserve, knocking him out through the bye week.

Achane was injured in Miami’s Week 5 victory over the New York Giants. On the afternoon, he generated 151 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. It marked the rookie’s third consecutive game above the 100-yard plateau.

In four games, he’s generated 460 yards on 38 carries with five rushing touchdowns and added nine catches for 67 yards and two more scores. Achane has a whopping 12.1 yards per carry average, by far the top in the NFL (Breece Hall No. 2 at 7.2; D’Andre Swift No. 3 at 5.7).

The rookie made history as the second NFL player, and the first in the Super Bowl era, to score seven or more TDs in his first four career games, according to NFL Research. This feat was previously achieved by Bill Paschal, who scored eight TDs in his first four games in 1943.

Achane is the first Dolphins player to achieve two rushing touchdowns of over 60 yards in one season.

The rookie’s blistering speed and explosive burst beyond the second level leaves onlookers breathless as he effortlessly outpaces defenders, transforming moderate gains into significant ones. He slots perfectly into Mike McDaniel’s strategy, which employs speed at all levels to put the defense under pressure.

Missing Achane is a blow to the Dolphins’ big-play ability, but they don’t lack for playmakers. Raheem Mostert is no slouch and should see the bulk of the work. Jeff Wilson is also eligible to come off injured reserve this week.
