On Sunday, the Chicago Bears suffered two significant losses: a defeat on the scoreboard and the more concerning loss of their starting quarterback.
Bears quarterback Justin Fields left Sunday’s 19-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings with an injury to his throwing hand.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Fields suffered a dislocated thumb on his right hand, according to sources. Rapoport added that Fields’ X-rays came back negative and he is scheduled for an MRI on Monday to assess any additional damage.
Fields departed for the locker room during the third quarter, clutching his hand after being sacked. Initially listed as possibly returning, he was soon declared out, leaving Chicago fans anxiously waiting for information on the extent of his injury.
Undrafted free agent Tyson Bagent took the field on the Bears’ next possession with Chicago trailing, 12-6, at the time. Bagent threw a crushing interception late, but overall performed well in a pinch as he was 10 of 14 for 58 yards and added a rushing score.
Fields had been limited to just 58 yards in the air on Sunday, completing 6 out of 10 passes, despite throwing eight touchdowns in the two games prior. He didn’t score any touchdowns, made an interception, and led the team with 46 rushing yards from eight carries.
