Believe it or not, we have already reached the Midsummer’s Classic, the MLB All Star Game. Festivities kicked off last night as Teoscar Hernandez won the 2024 Home Run Derby as a first time participant at Globe Life Field. Tonight features the actual game between the two leagues, and we are in for a star studded evening.
Let’s talk starting lineups, reserves and see if we can find something to bet on!
MLB All Star Game Starting Lineups
The 2024 MLB All Star Game is tonight in Arlington, Texas
Starting Pitchers
- National League: Paul Skenes (6-0, 1.90 ERA, 0.92 WHIP)
- American League: Corbin Burnes (9-4, 2.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP)
Two stud righties start on the bump for each league, with rookie Paul Skenes getting the official nod. You’d think two pitchers of this caliber would shove, but they are facing the best of the best in terms of hitters as well. Here’s the batting order and starting lineups for each squad.
National League Starters
The National League All Star Starters are full of fan favorites
Three Phillies, two Brewers, and four NL West players start for the National League on Tuesday Night. The Dodgers also have two starters in Shohei Ohtani and Home Run Derby Champion, Teoscar Hernandez. Let’s peek at the American League lineup!
American League Starters
The American League finally lost the All Star Game last year, the first time since 2012
The AL is looking for revenge, as they had won nine straight All Star Games before last season. Now, the game no longer determines home field advantage in the World Series, a rule that ended in 2016. Regardless, the American League will surely look for revenge. Here are the reserves for both squads!

Now, obviously there are plenty of names left off of this list that are out there for 20-1 or lower, but I feel like betting the MVP is just throwing a blind dart. The MVP of the All Star game could easily be won with one swing of the bat, especially against pitchers of this caliber. While I lean with the under 7.5 and have no problem paying the juice, that’s a tough button to press with the batters in these lineups.
The past four All Star Games have all gone under 7.5 easily, and 6 of the last 7 have stayed under that number as well. However one could argue that recent games have been at “pitcher friendly” stadiums, aside from Coors Field in 2021. Point being, I see this staying under, but can’t bring myself to root against runs in the All Star Game.
When betting the MVP, keep in mind a pitcher has only won the award twice since 2000, Mariano Rivera in 2013 and Shane Bieber in 2019.
2024 MLB All Star Game Best Bets
Adley Rutschman starts for the American League tonight at the All Star Game
Now I’ll be the first to admit there isn’t much “handicapping” you can do for an All Star Game. Nobody knows how many innings the starters will go, how many at bats a player will get, who will face who on the mound, so I’m staying completely away from props or the MVP market. I mentioned that I liked the under 7.5 even with the juice, but I’ll just lay some chalk with the American League getting revenge.
Best Bets: American League ML (-116) BetOnline
The AL leads the all time series 47-44-2. They had won nine straight before losing last year to the National League on a late home run, and tonight they should come back fired up. The NL has only won 4 times since 1997, which does not look good on their recent track record. Ultimately, this is sort of a total toss up in my mind, but do we really think their going to let the rookie shove in an All Star Game start?
Me neither. Gimme the AL.
