Week 3 of the 2024 CFL season continues on Friday with a massive matchup at Princess Auto Stadium between the BC Lions (1-1) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-2).

Lions vs Blue Bombers Predictions & CFL Week 3 Picks Today (6/21)
All eyes are on the Blue Bombers to see if they have what it takes to win for the first time this season. Despite being one of the best CFL teams in recent years (51-17 record, four Grey Cup appearances since 2019), Winnipeg has looked like a shell of its former self to begin the summer.
The Blue Bombers’ main issue has been their offense. After averaging a CFL-best 33.0 points last season, Winnipeg is putting up a 15.5 PPG clip in 2024 — good for dead last in the league. It doesn’t help that Mike O’Shea’s team has been outscored by an average of 9.5 PPG along the way.
The Blue Bombers’ struggles begin with quarterback Zach Collaros, who’s looked just awful. The two-time Most Outstanding Player has completed just 35-of-64 passes (54.7%) through two starts, tallying 494 passing yards and three interceptions without a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Lions QB Vernon Adams Jr. was Pro Football Focus‘ CFL Week 2 Player of the Week. The veteran signal-caller played well against the Stampeders, going 17-of-29 (58.6%) in the pocket for 277 yards and two touchdowns while also turning four carries into 16 rushing yards and another score.
Blue Bombers QB Zach Collaros has been dreadful to begin the 2024 CFL season.
I know that Winnipeg has had BC’s number in recent years, but all streaks come to an end eventually. The Blue Bombers don’t look like their usual selves and until they do, it’s easy to back the Lions on the road. The home crowd will give the Bombers a boost, but the Lions played well last week and have a real shot at pulling off a shocker if the former’s offense doesn’t fix itself.
Having said that, taking the Lions on the spread is the way to go.

After an underwhelming 2024 debut, Stanback looked much better in the Lions’ Week 2 victory, turning 15 carries into 69 rushing yards (4.6 yards per attempt). The two-time CFL All-Star now gets to face the Blue Bombers, who are surrendering the 2nd-most rushing yards per game and just surrendered 95 yards on the ground to the Redblacks’ Ryquell Armstead last week.
If the Lions establish the run early on, Stanback could be in for a big day.
