Wings vs Lynx Prediction & Picks (6/17): Will Merciless Minnesota Maul Dire Dallas?

It has been an absolutely miserable month for the Dallas Wings, and it is unlikely to improve tonight when they visit the high-flying Minnesota Lynx in the only game on Monday’s WNBA schedule. Tip time is scheduled for 8:00 pm ET.

The Wings (3-9) have lost seven straight games, including all six of their games thus far in June. Their last win to date was an 84-83 win at Los Angeles on May 26.

Tonight’s contest is the first game of a four-game road swing for Dallas, who is 2-4 away from home. That includes an 87-76 loss at Minnesota on June 2. For the Lynx (10-3), that is one of six wins in their last seven games overall and part of an ongoing four-game home win streak.

With a victory, Minnesota will move two games ahead of the Seattle Storm (9-5) in the Western Conference standings. The Storm fell yesterday at Phoenix, an outcome that the Lynx also experienced just ten days ago in what is their most recent loss.

Dallas Wings vs Minnesota Lynx Betting Analysis

Since their 81-80 loss to the Mercury, the Lynx have won three straight games. The first two were a couple of their best wins of the season, a 19-point home win over the Storm eight days ago and an 14-point road win over the Las Vegas Aces this past Tuesday.

Last time out, they had a harder time than might have been expected against the visiting Sparks on Friday. However, they did still get the job done in an 81-76 win. They trailed by five at halftime and needed every one of Napheesa Collier’s 30 points to see off Los Angeles, who was seemingly finally put away late in the fourth quarter before trimming a ten-point deficit to three in the final seconds.

In the end, a win is a win is a win,. And with that win, the Lynx are already over halfway to last season’s win total in just 13 games.

Last season, Minnesota struggled mightily at home. They won just 9 of 20 games in the regular season and closed out their campaign with a playoff loss there against the Connecticut Sun.

This season, however, they are 6-1 at the Target Center and have won four straight since an 80-66 loss to the Aces on May 29. The second win in that streak came over the Wings, who kept it close for over three quarters before falling off the pace in the fourth.

For the most part, the Wings have been competitive in most of their losses. Yes, they were held to a season-low 67 points in an 18-point home loss to the Sun on Saturday. But it can be said that Mohegan Sun Arena is not a fun place to play for most teams.

That said, the Wings just don’t have it right now, both at home and on the road. When they have had a better defensive effort, things have been lacking on the offensive end. When they have had a better offensive effort, things have been lacking on the defensive end.

At present, offense is the biggest issue on the road. Since their one-point win in Los Angeles on May 26, the Wings have scored 72 (versus the Sun in a two-point loss), 76 (versus the Lynx in an 11-point loss), and 72 points (versus the Sparks in a nine-point loss) on the road.

That isn’t going to cut it tonight against Minnesota. The Lynx are second in the WNBA in scoring (86.2 PPG) and have scored 80+ points in all but one game this season. They are first in the WNBA in both field-goal percentage (46.4%) and three-point percentage (40.7%), as well as made threes per game (10.6).

The Wings, meanwhile, are 11th in the league in scoring defense (85.9 PPG), rank 10th in field goal defense (44.3%), and give up an average of 72 shots per game, which is last in the league and a recipe for disaster against a team that shoots as well as the Lynx do.

Dallas Wings vs Minnesota Lynx Prediction & Picks

Wings vs Lynx Prediction: Lynx to win

Wings vs Lynx Picks: Lynx -9.5 & Lynx team total over 87.5 (-115 at Bovada)

The Lynx are 5-2 ATS at home this season, failing to cover only against the Aces in their outright loss and the Sparks on Friday. Look for them to improve to 6-2 ATS and 7-1 SU in the friendly confines tonight.

The Wings may stay in it for a while, but it will ultimately be yet another futile effort in an ugly run for Dallas, even if Arike Ogunbowale bounces back after making only 2 of 15 shots and scoring a season-low 11 points against the Sun.
