Despite a so-so start to the WNBA season, the Las Vegas Aces remain the team to beat for the title, at least according to the latest WNBA championship odds. Today, they have an opportunity to back up those odds as they host the New York Liberty (3:00 pm ET, ABC).
The Aces (6-5) snapped a three-game losing streak on Thursday night with a 103-99 win over the Phoenix Mercury, but through 11 games, they have one fewer loss than in last year’s record-breaking 34-6 season.
Still, entering today, BetOnline’s WNBA title odds have the Aces (+140) out ahead of the Liberty (+220), Connecticut Sun (+650), and Minnesota Lynx (+650), who sport the three best records in the league at present.
The Liberty (11-2) may be a half-game behind the Sun (11-1) in the WNBA standings, but they already own a win at Mohegan Sun Arena, and a victory in this matchup would be another strong statement about their championship credentials.
This is the first matchup of the season between the top two title favorites, with two further duels set for August 17 in Las Vegas and September 8 in Brooklyn.
When last they met, the Aces survived a frantic final minute to close out the Liberty at Barclays Center last October. What is in store for today’s tilt at Michelob Ultra Arena?

New York Liberty vs Las Vegas Aces Betting Analysis
Thursday’s win doesn’t mean that the Aces are back on track, but it could prove to be a very pivotal victory.
Today’s matchup with the Liberty is the first of a three-game homestand against fellow title hopefuls. Following today’s game against the Liberty, the Seattle Storm (9-4) will be in town Wednesday (10:00 pm ET, NBA TV), then the Sun will visit Michelob Ultra on Friday night (10:00 pm ET, ION).
By this point next week, either the Aces could have restrengthened their place as the WNBA’s best team, or they could be under .500. The latter is a position they haven’t been in since they opened the 2021 season with a loss at Seattle.
Against the Mercury, it looked like the Aces were destined for a fourth straight loss when they found themselves down 28-12 after the first quarter.
By the end of the second quarter, they had 54 points and a three-point lead, and though the game remained close the entire second half, the two-time defending champs held firm and never trailed again after taking a 50-49 lead with 1:21 left in the first half.
The Aces are not without their questions on both ends of the court, and that may remain the case until Chelsea Gray returns to action. But their response to falling into a big early hole against a team that had beaten them already this season (and played them close in their other matchup) is just what you would want to see from them ahead of this upcoming gauntlet. That’s the kind of comeback that can be a real galvanizing catalyst for a team, and I think it will be for the Aces. I feel rather confident that they will emerge victorious this afternoon.
