Even if the stakes are low tonight, NFL preseason games still feature their fair share of betting opportunities. That’s why this article is here to help you get in on the action as we look at the latest 49ers vs. Raiders odds, as well as my pick for this evening’s clash.

49ers vs Raiders Predictions & NFL Picks Today (8/23)

As the regular season nears, these teams are hoping to end the NFL preseason on a high note. The 49ers are looking for consecutive wins following last week’s 16-10 win over the New Orleans Saints. Jake Moody hit a trio of field goals as San Francisco’s defense limited New Orleans to 271 total yards across 10 drives.

Meanwhile, the Raiders dropped to 0-2 in the preseason with a 27-12 blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Las Vegas simply couldn’t get anything going on offense despite holding the ball for nearly 33 minutes, resulting in the team’s average scoring margin falling to a minus-8.0 this summer.

There’s a good chance that the Raiders’ preseason skid will continue tonight given that head coach Antonio Pierce has confirmed that the starters won’t be playing tonight. Conversely, 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan revealed that while his players won’t play the entire matchup, his first-team players will see some kind of action at Allegiant Stadium, even if it’s only for a handful of drives.

How many touches will 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey see vs. the Raiders tonight?

And even though the Raiders are the home team, it isn’t like the Sin City crowd’s support matters given last week’s 15-point loss to the Cowboys at Allegiant Stadium. In fact, the Raiders are now 0-3 ATS with a minus-10.3 average scoring margin in their last three preseason outings.

With that in mind, I’m predicting a San Francisco victory tonight. The fact that the 49ers will at least begin the game with their starters gives them a concrete edge, especially with the Raiders mostly deploying second- and third-string players this evening. It might get closer as the game goes on, however, the potential for the 49ers to open the game with a big lead is too likely to ignore.

Additionally, I like the 49ers covering the 1.5-point first-quarter spread as the best bet. Again, boasting the likes of QB Brock Purdy, RB Christian McCaffrey, and WR Deebo Samuel means the 49ers have a tremendous opportunity to get off to a massive lead early on. Unless the Raiders are suddenly the second coming of the 1985 Chicago Bears, I’m confident that the 49ers will be up by at least two points once the second frame begins.
