A number of potential contenders are preparing for the Open Championship at Royal Troon next week by participating in this week’s Genesis Scottish Open to get some competitive practice.

The tournament is taking place at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick for the sixth year in a row. This 7,237-yard, par-70 course is the chosen venue once again.

Rory McIlroy clinched his first victory at the Genesis Scottish Open last year, besting Scotsman Robert MacIntyre by a single stroke with his 15-under 265.

Ian Woosnam, the 1991 Masters winner and former world number one, and Ernie Els, a four-time major champion and former world number one, are the only players who have won the Scottish Open multiple times to date. Woosnam won the tournament in 1987, 1990, and 1996, while Els won in 2000 and 2003.

Rory McIlroy (+900)

Genesis Scottish Open Winner Pick: Xander Schauffele (+900)

In last year’s Scottish Open, Schauffele shot a final-round 74 and tied for 42^nd. With how well he has been playing this season, don’t expect a similar result this year.

If you’re hesitant to lock him in as your winner pick, you can instead secure him for a top-five finish (+225), a top-ten finish (+120), or potentially even a top-20 finish (-150), despite the odds.

Tommy Fleetwood to finish in the top 20 (+110)

Fleetwood has secured top 20 finishes in his last three tournaments and is expected to continue this streak this week. His commendable performance in the previous two versions of the Genesis Scottish Open saw him tied for fourth in 2022 and sixth last year.

Tom Kim to finish in the top 20 (+150)

Two weeks ago, Kim had a surprising letdown at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, failing to make the cut despite entering as the tournament favorite. Expect a stronger performance at the Renaissance Club, a venue where he previously secured sixth place last year and third place in 2022.

I’m confident that he’ll be among the top contenders on the leaderboard. Accordingly, his odds are +315 for a top-ten finish and +650 for a top-five finish.

Robert MacIntyre to finish in the top 20 (+210)

MacIntyre’s first complete season on the PGA Tour has been quite the journey. He clinched victory at the RBC Canadian Open last month and secured eighth place at the PGA Championship. However, he also failed to make the cut nine times.

Back on home soil, MacIntyre should have a positive week this week. At the Renaissance Club last year, he shot a final-round 64, but a bogey on the par-5 16^th cost him dearly.
