Atlanta Hawks

Reports: Hawks trade Dedmon to Pistons

A reported trade has been worked out between two Eastern Conference teams with playoff ambitions to address specific needs.

According to various reports, the Atlanta Hawks have traded center Dewayne Dedmon to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report on this trade. The move enables the Hawks to significantly reduce their salary cap, as they no longer have to pay Dedmon’s $13.3 million salary for this season. Meanwhile, Snell’s contract, which ends in 2020-21, is valued at $12.1 million. Dedmon’s non-guaranteed $13.3 million for 2021-22 has also been shed by the Hawks.

Sources inform ESPN that Detroit is swapping Khyri Thomas and Tony Snell for Dewayne Dedmon from Atlanta.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) November 19, 2020

Confirmed that the #Pistons are getting Dewayne Dedmon for the #Hawks for Tony Snell and Khyri Thomas.

Dedmon is slated to earn $13.3M this season, with another non-guaranteed $13.3M for the 2021-2022 season.

— Rod Beard (@detnewsRodBeard) November 19, 2020

Dedmon provides the Pistons with a strong presence in the frontcourt and as a rebounder when on the court. After being traded to the Hawks by the Sacramento Kings on Feb. 6 last season, he averaged 8.1 points and 8.2 rebounds across 10 games. Dedmon has demonstrated his ability as a frontcourt player previously, with averages of 10.8 points per game (ppg) and 7.5 rebounds per game (rpg) in the 2018-19 season, and 10.0 ppg and 7.9 rpg in the 2017-18 season.

Snell, with a career record of hitting 38.5% of his 3-point shots, was successful in making 40.2% of such shots in the last season with the Pistons. This makes him a reliable 3-point shooter. His capacity to extend the court will be beneficial to the youthful Hawks and their All-Star guard, Trae Young. It will also provide their big men, John Collins and Clint Capela, with more space to maneuver offensively.

Report: Temple’s option not picked up

The Brooklyn Nets are parting ways with swingman Garrett Temple.

The veteran combo guard joined the Nets last season as a free agent, but will not have his $5 million option picked up for 2020-21, reports Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Charlotte Hornets

Report: Bacon won’t get qualifying offer

Dwane Bacon, a third-year guard, will reportedly become an unrestricted free agent this summer, as Charlotte is said to be not extending him a qualifying offer.

According to Rod Boone from The Athletic, the separation between the Hornets and Bacon appeared unavoidable after Bacon was replaced in the starting lineup by Devonte’ Graham. Since joining Charlotte’s roster in 2017, Bacon’s performance has been inconsistent. Although he averaged a career-high 7.3 points and 47.5% shooting in the 2018-19 season, his stats dropped to 5.7 points per game and 34.8% field goal percentage in the following season. His offensive struggles led to him playing in the G League with the Greensboro Swarm by February.

Per a league source, #Hornets will not extend a qualifying offer to Dwayne Bacon by today's deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent. Bacon began last season as the starting shooting guard but struggled and was replaced in lineup by Devonte' Graham. Split seemed inevitable
