Indiana Fever vs Las Vegas Aces Prediction & Picks (7/2): Champs Strive for Five at Home Against Rising

The Las Vegas Aces are on a hot streak and tonight, they’re aiming for their fifth win in a row. They will be hosting Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at 9:30 pm ET on ESPN. It was inevitable that they’d find their rhythm.

Thanks to their four straight wins, the Aces (10-6) are now 4.5 games behind the New York Liberty (16-3), who currently sit atop the WNBA standings.

With eight games remaining before the league takes a month-long break for the Olympics, the Aces have a chance to cut into that deficit before they welcome the Liberty to Michelob Ultra Arena on August 17 (4:00 pm ET, CBS) in their first game back.

This evening, the current champions are up against Clark and the Fever (8-12) for their second encounter this season. Indiana may not be on the same winning streak as Las Vegas at present, but with a 7-4 record post a 1-8 season start, things are certainly looking up for them.

Even though they might be on the right track, they are anticipated to be easily defeated tonight, given that the Aces are heavily favored.

Indiana Fever vs Las Vegas Aces Betting Analysis

The Fever secured their most impressive win of the season on Sunday, making a stunning comeback from a 15-point deficit in the second half to defeat the Phoenix Mercury at the Footprint Center.

In a game of runs, Indiana emerged as the ultimate victor.

Phoenix was ahead 31-30 in the second quarter, then increased their lead to 53-38 early in the third quarter with a 22-8 run. Indiana retaliated with a 27-2 run to secure a 65-55 lead. However, the Mercury changed the game with a 23-7 streak, leading 78-72 with only 3:05 remaining.

In the next possession, Aliyah Boston, who has only attempted 13 three-pointers this season, successfully scored a triple, narrowing the Fever’s deficit to three. This triggered a decisive 16-4 run that ultimately led to Indiana’s victory.

The Fever’s victory could be significant in the future, considering it’s their first over a team in the top half of the league standings. This is particularly noteworthy given that the Mercury have already defeated the Lynx, Storm, and Liberty at the Footprint Center this season.

However, achieving such success for the second time in a row seems highly unlikely. The Aces have stumbled against the Los Angeles Sparks and Atlanta Dream this season. But, since the return of Chelsea Gray, the champions have chalked up four back-to-back victories with a margin of double digits.

Last Four Games for the Las Vegas Aces

  • at Washington Mystics (6/29): won 88-77
  • at Chicago Sky (6/27): won 95-83
  • vs Connecticut Sun (6/21): won 85-74
  • vs Seattle Storm (6/19): won 94-83

They defeated the Washington Mystics 88-77 in D.C. on Saturday, with a fourth-quarter score of 21-8 and a second-half score of 42-25, outscoring the Mystics.

Despite A’ja Wilson only scoring 11 points and Kelsey Plum 2 points, their lowest of the season, they still managed to score 88 points. This is a worrying sign for the rest of the WNBA. Gray had a season-best of 22 points, Tiffany Hayes matched her season record with 17 points, and Jackie Young topped everyone with 26 points.

This season, Wilson is delivering an average of 25.9 points per game (PPG) and 11.6 rebounds per game (RPG) at home, while Plum is providing an average of 20.6 PPG, with a 37.2% shooting rate from the three-point line at home. In the game between the Aces and Fever at Michelob Ultra Arena on May 25, Wilson and Plum were among the standout players, contributing 29 points with 12 of 18 field goals and 15 rebounds, and 20 points with seven assists respectively to a 99-80 win.

Indiana’s seventh game of the season marked a turning point, with the team demonstrating significant improvement since. Clark is hitting her stride, while Boston and Kelsey Mitchell are performing superbly. The team as a whole seems to be coming together well.

This is a good sign for the remainder of the season and their ambition to make it to the WNBA playoffs for the first time since 2016. However, it won’t change the outcome of their game tonight at Michelob Ultra Arena.
