With WWE’s Monday Night Raw at Amerant Bank Arena this week, it was only natural to have the Florida Panthers as part of the celebration, specifically Panthers legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Roberto Luongo.

The ex-NHL goalie, now part of the Panthers’ front office, had his name engraved on the Stanley Cup for the first time following the previous season’s championship. He returned to the arena on Monday for the first time since their Game 7 victory.

“In an interview with Jackie Redmond, Luongo expressed, ‘Some nice feelings right now, seeing the banners still up,'”

As Luongo was discussing his forthcoming day with the Cup on Wednesday, his interview was cut short by an interruption from CM Punk, a WWE wrestler who is known for being a hockey enthusiast and a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Of course, he remembered the 2011 Stanley Cup First Round when the Vancouver Canucks, Luongo’s former team, defeated the Blackhawks in seven games.

“Wasn’t thrilled about the 2011 playoffs,” CM Punk quipped humorously, “We were expected to win again, but we performed decently.”

Even with a hint of rivalry, CM Punk did not hesitate to congratulate Luongo on his long-awaited recognition on the Cup.

“I’m extremely delighted,” CM Punk conveyed to Luongo. “It’s truly amazing to witness deserving people receive their due recognition.”

Luongo, who mentioned he was a childhood fan of WWE, attended the event ringside and was acknowledged by host Pat McAfee.
