Following a Monday break, the WNBA returns with three games. Today, some of the top teams in the league will be playing. The undefeated Sun will be going head-to-head with the Mystics, who haven’t won a game yet. Meanwhile, the New York Liberty are set to compete against the Sky in Chicago. Lastly, in the late-night western game, the Storm will be hosting the Mercury.
Only a few games had plays that caught my attention, specifically two. So, let me quickly share my two top picks for tonight’s games.

Today is a significant day for underdogs, as I favor two out of the three underdogs that are competing today.
Both Mercury and Storm have recently achieved significant victories against emerging teams. Storm secured a 15-point win against the Fever on their home turf, and Mercury celebrated a 19-point triumph against the Sparks. While both teams are in a favorable position, Mercury appears to be more seasoned and prepared in this situation.
Phoenix’s journey has been quite a tumultuous one, marked by a challenging three-game road trip against some of the best teams in the league. Prior to their win over the Sparks, the Mercury endured an embarrassing defeat to the Sun, not even managing to score 50 points. Their shooting performance was far from impressive, as Phoenix recorded a disheartening 23.8% from the field and a shocking 3.7% from three-point range. Subsequently, they suffered losses in their next two games against the Liberty and Lynx.

I’m skeptical that the Storm are nearly ten points superior to the Mercury, even factoring in home-court advantage. If the Mercury can focus, find their rhythm, and crucially, convert their shots, a stark contrast to their performance against the Sun, they should easily surpass this score. Despite missing their star player Britteny Griner, the team’s structure is still robust.

The letdown spot in sports is my favorite.
The Indiana Fever clinched their first home win of the season against the Chicago Sky in a fiercely contested match on Saturday. However, they had to quickly travel to play the New York Liberty in a consecutive game. The Liberty dominated the game, defeating the Fever by a massive 36-point margin.
Now, the Liberty are set to travel to Chicago to take on a Sky team that’s grappling with a controversy involving guard Chennedy Carter and Angel Reese following their Saturday fiasco with Caitlin Clarke. Regardless, incidents like these can either serve as motivation or deflate team spirit. My inclination is that the team will rise to the challenge tonight and put up a strong performance against one of the league’s top teams.
The young and developing team, The Sky, has been showcasing their impressive defensive skills, effectively keeping their opponents under 80 points. They hold the fourth position in the league for the least points allowed per game, with an average of just 78.4 points per game. Offensively, they are just shy of 80 points per game. Considering their strong defense, I think this is an excellent opportunity for Chicago, particularly as they are coming off a challenging loss and now have the advantage of playing at home.
