Despite growing up in Brooklyn, my fandom for the Leafs began in 1942. One day, I stumbled upon a newsstand on West 43rd Street that catered to out-of-town news. They even stocked the Globe and Mail from Toronto.

I was captivated by the extensive coverage of the Leafs that I would never have found in the New York newspapers. As a result, I subscribed to this fantastic daily newspaper, even if it arrived a day late.

I was eagerly anticipating the story of the Globe Cup victory. What I loved most was seeing Nat Turofsky’s photograph capturing the beginning of the Leafs’ celebrations. The photo starred Harry Watson, Wild Bill Ezinicki – my top Leaf – and Syl Apps, who I look up to.
