“Kevin transformed everything for us from the moment he arrived in the summer of 2007,” expressed Wyc Grousbeck, the co-owner of the Celtics. “His total dedication to victory played a crucial role in our 2008 championship. He will forever remain one of my most beloved Celtics.”

“KG came to Boston exemplifying the very essence of a Celtic, wholeheartedly adopting the ‘team first’ attitude and igniting a fierce competitive spirit,” commented Steve Pagliuca, Co-Owner of the Celtics. “His exceptional contribution to securing the 17th championship banner for Boston is something we will always be thankful for. He will always be remembered as a leader, both on the court and off it. He truly personified the pride of the Celtics.”

Before the 2007-08 season, Garnett, a 6’11” forward/center and one of the most dominant two-way players in NBA history, was traded to the Celtics. In his debut season with the team, he played a crucial role in securing Boston’s NBA-best 17th World Championship, and received All-NBA First Team and NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. During his six-season tenure with the Celtics, Garnett was an All-Star five times and was selected for four NBA All-Defensive Teams. He played in 396 games, averaging 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 30.9 minutes per game.

Joining his teammate Paul Pierce, whose number was retired in 2017-18, Garnett now also finds his place in the Garden rafters. This honor makes him the 24th member of the Celtics organization to be recognized in this manner.
