It’s time to make our way to Guaranteed Rate Field, located on the Southside of Chicago, where the main attraction for attendees is the food, rather than the games.
Kevin Gausman will be pitching today for the visiting Blue Jays, and I am quite interested in betting on him exceeding his strikeout total. He is up against a White Sox lineup that includes eight hitters with a strikeout rate higher than the league average, none of whom have elite or great ratings. Furthermore, Chicago’s average hitter matchup rating is only slightly above average.
This roster, which has underperformed all season, holds the ninth-worst strikeout rate in the MLB, far from an impressive record. Indeed, in three of their last five games, opposing pitchers have even surpassed this dismal number.
Although Gausman has only gone over 6.5 strikeouts twice this season, he has recorded at least six strikeouts in six of his ten starts this season. The Blue Jays veteran comes into today’s game with an average hitter matchup strikeout percentage of 32.45%. According to Batters-Box.com, when pitchers have a rating above 32%+, they go over 6.5 strikeouts 55% of the time.
We need seven out of the average 10.67 strikeouts per game this White Sox team has achieved in their last three games to be attributed to Mr. Kevin Gausman.

The Pirates’ promising young player has been performing exceptionally well on the mound this season, causing difficulties for batters at the plate. Today, he faces a Tigers team that has been struggling with strikeouts. Detroit ranks tenth worst in the league for strikeout percentage this season. Given that their lineup includes Javy Baez, it is understandable why the team ranks among the top ten for strikeouts.

Tonight, the Tigers feature eight hitters who strike out at rates higher than the league average and one exceptional hitter, Kerry Carpenter, whom I have bet on to get a hit at -143. Their overall average hitter matchup rating surpasses the average, making it less than ideal.
Jones has consistently demonstrated his ability to strike out this season, achieving this feat in seven out of his ten starts. Similar to Kevin Gausman, Jones holds an average hitter matchup strikeout percentage exceeding 32%. Considering his past performance, I predict that this will be a beneficial matchup for Jones. Despite being challenged repeatedly, he should hold up well, even against a Tigers lineup that has recently improved their sight of the ball.
