The New York Jets’ top receiver, Garrett Wilson, is officially questionable for Sunday’s AFC East showdown against the Buffalo Bills.
All week, an elbow injury has limited Wilson’s participation in practices.
On Friday, Head Coach Robert Saleh mentioned that everything is going well with Wilson, but emphasized that Wilson must receive clearance to play.
“Saleh expressed optimism, but remained honest and cautious. He refrained from speaking on behalf of him or the doctors, pointing out that there are a few challenges that need to be overcome,” he said.
Wilson missing Sunday’s game would be a massive blow to the Gang Green pass attack. The second-year wideout leads the Jets in targets (95), receptions (55), receiving yards (642), and TD catches (two) in 2023. No. 2 on the Jets is tight end Tyler Conklin, with 33 catches for 363 yards. Only one other New York wide receiver has 70 receiving yards (Allen Lazard, 290 yards).
The Jets, currently at 4-5, are hoping they won’t be without Wilson for Sunday’s game as they strive to stay in the playoff contention against the Bills who are standing at 5-5.
Saleh, when asked why he appeared reluctant to confirm Wilson’s participation, said, “I don’t want to tempt fate. Perhaps I should touch wood, right? But we’ll see. He’s doing well. His communication is on point, everything seems positive. But as I mentioned, he still has a few challenges to overcome.”
