Blues acquire Broberg, Holloway from Oilers

The Oilers chose not to match offer sheets; additionally, the Blues traded a draft pick and Fischer to Edmonton.

ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Blues’ President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, Doug Armstrong, has confirmed that the team has signed defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway to two-year contracts. This comes after the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match the offer sheets signed by the duo on August 13.

In order to meet the necessary compensation for the outstanding offer sheets, the Blues are trading their 2025 second-round draft pick for Broberg and their 2025 third-round draft pick for Holloway to the Oilers.

St. Louis is trading its 2028 third-round draft pick and 2023 unsigned fifth-round draft choice, Paul Fischer, to Edmonton in a separate transaction for future considerations.

The Oilers originally drafted 23-year-old Broberg in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft, as the overall No. 8 pick. The 6-foot-4, 212-pound defenseman played 12 regular-season games for the Oilers and an additional 49 for the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors last season, amassing a total of 40 points (comprising of five goals and 35 assists). Broberg also contributed three points (two goals, one assist) in 10 postseason games with the Oilers, aiding them in reaching the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.

Broberg has overall participated in 81 NHL regular-season games, during which he has recorded 13 points (comprising of two goals and 11 assists) and received 10 penalty minutes.

The native of Orebro has also represented Sweden on several occasions in international competitions, including winning a bronze medal at the 2020 World Junior Championships.

The Oilers originally drafted 22-year-old Holloway in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, securing the 14th overall pick. In the last season, the forward, who stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 206 pounds, played 38 regular-season games for the Oilers and contributed to 18 regular-season games for the Condors. He accumulated 25 points (16 goals, nine assists) and served 41 penalty minutes in total. Additionally, he participated in all 25 postseason games for the Oilers, scoring seven points (five goals, two assists) and receiving eight penalty minutes.

Holloway has played in a total of 89 regular-season NHL games, during which he has accumulated 18 points, split evenly between nine goals and nine assists, and has received 56 penalty minutes.

The native of Calgary, Alberta attended the University of Wisconsin where he was a contender for the Hobey Baker Award (the highest award for collegiate players) in 2021. In the same year, he clinched a silver medal at the 2021 World Junior Championships as part of Team Canada.
