Al Arbour returns to coach the Islanders one final time for his 1,500th game coached
Al Arbour’s 1500th Game
Nov. 3, 2007 – Al Arbour returns to coach the Islanders for the 1,500th and final time.
In his 1,500th game coached on the Islanders bench, Arbour and the Islanders rally out of an 0-2 hole and complete a come-from-behind victory to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2. Miroslav Satan scored a pair of third-period goals to lead the Isles to the win. With the victory, Arbour also recorded his 740th win as the Islanders coach. A banner commemorating his 1,500 games coached is raised to the rafters.
OTD in 2007: Al Arbour came out of retirement to coach his 1500th and final game with the @ny_islanders. The legendary head coach was behind the Isles bench from 1973-86 and 1988-94. Arbour led the Isles to four-straight Stanley Cup wins in 1980-83. Arbour is ranked sixth all-time in games coached at 1,607. Arbour ranks sixth all time in all-time coaching wins with 782.
