Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham will be out for at least 7-10 days with a left knee strain, the team announced Tuesday.

What happened: Cunningham left Sunday’s 131-114 loss to the Denver Nuggets midway through the second quarter with his injury.

Cunningham’s impact: While Detroit is the worst team in the Eastern Conference (3-33), Cunningham has enjoyed a solid season after missing most of 2022-23 with injuries. This season, he is averaging 22.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 44.9% overall and 33.5% on 3-pointers.

Killian Hayes is the No. 2 point guard on the team and ranks No. 2 in total assists for Detroit behind Cunningham. He will likely see more minutes at the point while Cunningham heals up. The Pistons have a three-game homestand that begins tonight against the Sacramento Kings (7 ET, NBA League Pass) and will play in Washington on Jan. 15 before returning home to host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Jan. 17.

That home game against Minnesota would be a little more than a week from now and could coincide with Cunningham’s return to the lineup.
